Groundwater contamination through potentially harmful metals and its implications in groundwater management

چکیده
Groundwater contamination through potentially harmful metals (PHMs) is an environmental hazard in Pakistan with significant human health risk reports. The current research was conducted Sheikhupura District, which a major industrial site Punjab, Pakistan. According to the Punjab Directorate of Industries Pakistan, there are total 748 industries this area. These produce lot waste and effluent, contaminate environment toxic materials. Continuous irrigation effluent sewage sludge may make groundwater sources vulnerable. Therefore, we collected 243 samples from community tube wells investigate quality cconcerning PHM contaminations study This presents values pH, dissolved solids (TDS), electrical conductivity (EC), like arsenic (As), manganese (Mn), lead (Pb), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), iron (Fe). PHMs such as As (91%), Mn (14%), Pb (97%), Fe (45%), Zn (15%), these were beyond permitted limit recommended by world organization (WHO). Principal component analysis (PCA) results variability (60%) reveal that area contaminated about 30.9, 31.3, 37.6% resulted geogenic sources, anthropogenic or both respectively. Such include rock-water interaction, mining actions, agricultural practices, domestic sewage, Saturation indices show aquifers saturated hydroxide, goethite minerals, indicating minerals have vital role groundwater. Health assessment predicted non-carcinogenic (HQ) found within permissible (<1), except (1.58E+00) for children, while carcinogenic (CR) all selected lower than maximum threshold CR value (1 × 10 −4 ).

INTRODUCTION In the southern United States, chemicals are an integral part of the management of bare-root nurseries. The rationale for using chemicals is based on economics as they can reduce hand labor, improve the use of valuable seed, and increase seedling performance. The cost of all chemicals associated with loblolly pine seedling production averages less than 0.2 cent per seedling. The co...

Arsenic compounds have been applied at the land surface as pesticides in agricultural areas globally. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the fate of anthropogenic arsenic applications related to agriculture, using arsenic applications on cotton in the southern High Plains (SHP), Texas, as a case study and examining possible linkages with contamination of the underlying Ogallala aquifer i...
متن کاملGroundwater Dynamics and Arsenic Contamination in Bangladesh
Although arsenic contaminated groundwater in Bangladesh is a serious health issue, little is known about the complex transient patterns of groundwater flow that flush solutes from aquifers and carry solutes into the subsurface. Hydrologic modeling results for our field site in the Munshiganj district indicate that groundwater flow is vigorous, flushing the aquifer over time-scales of decades to...
متن کاملNitrate contamination of groundwater: A conceptual management framework
In many countries, public concern over the deterioration of groundwater quality from nitrate contamination has grown significantly in recent years. This concern has focused increasingly on anthropogenic sources as the potential cause of the problem. Evidence indicates that the nitrate (NO3) levels routinely exceed the maximum contaminant level (MCL) of 10 mg/l NO3-N in many aquifer systems that...
متن کاملContamination and restoration of groundwater aquifers.
Humans are exposed to chemicals in contaminated groundwaters that are used as sources of drinking water. Chemicals contaminate groundwater resources as a result of waste disposal methods for toxic chemicals, overuse of agricultural chemicals, and leakage of chemicals into the subsurface from buried tanks used to hold fluid chemicals and fuels. In the process, both the solid portions of the subs...
